I'm having problem with my HP DV7, I took it apart to replace the DC harness and after that was done. I put it all back together and now the LCD won't turn on. I have tested the LCD on another laptop and it works fine and has pictures. I have also tested another LCD on my DV7 and still the same results (blank) I tested the laptop with an external monitor and it boots up fine so I though it was the LCD inverter in which I went ahead and bought a new one. It arrived last week and when I installed it, it still won't work. I bought a new LCD cable hoping this would solve it but still no good results.

I tried looking for a "Lid closed" button near or on the laptop but can't find one..

Anyone knows what the problem could be? I tried 'fn+f4' and so on but only my external monitor is detected, and when I start up windows, it's the same thing. no internal monitor detected.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

My HP laptop will work fine and then goes black. I shut the lid and then it comes back on. It is getting more frequent and sometimes it wont work at all! I have contacted HP and they want to charge me over $400 to fix the problem. Is it the motherboard? I dont think it is the backlight as it is working at the moment. It will work connected to an external monitor also. Any help would be appreciated.

I noticed that in some cases the laptop screen may turn white because of poor connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. I always check the video cable connection first. Reconnecting the video cable may fix your problem. If reconnecting the video cable doesn’t help, most likely you have a problem either with the LCD screen or with the motherboard. In my case the problem was related to the LCD screen and I had to buy new screen from ScreenCountry.com and replace it.

Also a blank screen or a dim screen could also mean graphic problem. Many HP laptops these days have that issue.
